West Ham United are finalizing a deal to acquire midfielder Soungoutou Magassa from AS Monaco in a transfer valued at around €20 million. The proposed agreement includes an initial payment of €17 million, with an additional €3 million in potential add-ons.
The club, seeking to revitalize its midfield following a difficult start to the season, has identified the 21-year-old French youth international as a primary target. Negotiations have advanced significantly, with the two clubs having settled on a fee. The final stages of the deal now hinge on finalizing personal terms with the player.
In a parallel move to strengthen the squad, West Ham have also submitted a loan offer for Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangaré. This comes as the East London club looks to add both energy and creativity to its engine room, areas that have been identified as weaknesses.
Magassa, who featured in over 30 matches for Monaco last campaign, is highly regarded by West Ham’s scouting department. While the club had explored other options, including Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes, their pursuit of the Portuguese player has proven difficult, prompting a shift in focus.
The financial structure of the move for Magassa was contingent on freeing up space in the wage bill, which has been partially achieved with the loan departure of Edson Álvarez. Further player sales could facilitate additional signings before the transfer window closes, with several other midfielders across Europe remaining on the club’s radar.
