West Ham United are finalising a significant move for Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandes in a deal valued at approximately £38 million. Negotiations advanced quickly, and the 21-year-old is understood to have completed a medical in London.
The club is also on the verge of securing Soungoutou Magassa from Monaco for a fee of around £14.7 million, plus additional performance-related payments. These two signings represent a major investment in the midfield as the team seeks to strengthen its core.
Manager Graham Potter, aiming to revitalise the squad after a difficult start to the campaign, has prioritised adding both a defensive-minded player and a creative force in the centre of the park. Magassa is seen as the holding midfielder, while Fernandes is targeted for his energy and attacking contributions.
West Ham had to overcome late competition for Magassa’s signature, with other clubs attempting to intervene, but the player remained committed to the move. A compromise was eventually reached with Southampton for Fernandes after initial bids were rejected, with the final agreement including a substantial sell-on clause for the selling club.
In other transfer news, Crystal Palace have made an approach to sign defender Mohammed Salisu on loan from Monaco. The move could face competition from clubs in Italy and Greece.
Elsewhere, Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of defender Ladislav Krejci from Girona. The Czech international joins initially on loan, with the deal set to become permanent for £20 million once certain conditions are met.
