Recently disclosed correspondence shows Andrew Mountbatten Windsor urgently sought to separate himself from the controversies surrounding Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The messages, made public by congressional investigators, capture the former royal’s repeated insistence that he had no knowledge of or involvement in the criminal activities associated with the pair.
In one exchange from March 2011, Andrew pressed Epstein to ensure that any public statements or legal communications explicitly stated his non-involvement. “Please make sure that every statement or legal letter states clearly that I am NOT involved and that I knew and know NOTHING about any of these allegations,” he wrote, adding, “I can’t take any more of this my end.”
Epstein responded to media inquiries by dismissing the allegations as “complete and utter fantasy,” while Andrew maintained his position of being entirely removed from the situation. Despite his denials, the continuing controversy led to his formal removal from royal duties and privileges in 2022.
In a decisive move, the monarchy stripped Andrew of his titles and styles, and he was required to relinquish his residence at Royal Lodge. Official communications cited the necessity of these actions regardless of his continued denial of all accusations against him.
