GENE HACKMAN’S PERSONAL COLLECTION HEADS TO AUCTION BLOCK

1 min read

More than 400 personal items from the estate of the late acting legend Gene Hackman will be offered to the public next month through a series of auctions. The collection provides an intimate glimpse into the private world the actor cultivated after stepping away from Hollywood.

The extensive array of lots spans fine art and personal memorabilia. Notable pieces include sculptures by Auguste Rodin and paintings by Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky from Hackman’s private collection. The auction will also feature three of the actor’s Golden Globe awards, various film scripts with his personal annotations, promotional posters, and even his personal dartboard and a Seiko diver’s watch.

The actor, who passed away earlier this year at age 95, had devoted his post-acting career to writing and painting. The sale will include numerous artworks created by Hackman himself, ranging from still life compositions to portraits, including a bronze sculpture of his wife’s head.

Hackman’s remarkable film career earned him two Academy Awards for his performances in “The French Connection” and “Unforgiven.” While Oscar statues cannot be legally sold, his Golden Globe awards face no such restrictions and are expected to fetch between $3,000 and $5,000 each.

The three-part auction, managed by Bonhams, will offer collectors and fans the opportunity to acquire pieces from the life of one of cinema’s most respected figures. Bidding will begin at accessible levels, with some personal items like his dartboard starting at just $10.
