GAZA SEES DOZENS KILLED IN ESCALATED MILITARY STRIKES

1 min read

A series of Israeli military operations across Gaza resulted in the deaths of at least 53 Palestinians on Thursday, as regional mediators pressed Hamas to accept a new ceasefire proposal. The offensive expanded into areas previously designated as humanitarian zones, with multiple civilian casualties reported.

In the southern al-Masawi district, an attack on a food storage facility killed nine individuals from the same family. Separate strikes in central Gaza claimed the lives of four siblings gathering firewood and nine people, predominantly women, in a residential building.

Israeli forces have intensified operations around Gaza City, issuing final evacuation warnings and restricting movement between northern and southern regions. Defense officials stated that remaining residents in combat zones would be considered affiliated with militant activities.

The International Committee of the Red Cross emphasized that international humanitarian law protects all civilians regardless of their decision to evacuate.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue as Hamas reviews a proposed agreement that would require the group to disarm, release hostages, and withdraw from political governance. In exchange, Israel would release Palestinian prisoners and gradually withdraw forces, contingent on an international security presence.

The proposal has drawn mixed reactions from Palestinian factions, with some demanding modifications to ensure post-agreement security guarantees. Mediating nations have acknowledged the plan requires further negotiation but have endorsed its general framework.

Humanitarian organizations report deteriorating conditions in the territory, with widespread displacement and severe shortages of essential supplies. Aid groups contradict official claims that famine conditions have been prevented, pointing to catastrophic food insecurity affecting large population segments.

The conflict has resulted in significant casualties since its inception two years ago, following a militant attack that killed approximately 1,200 people in Israel. Current estimates indicate over 66,000 Palestinian fatalities and 170,000 injuries from the subsequent military campaign.
