GAZA AID FLOTILLA REPORTS DRONE ATTACKS AND EXPLOSIONS NEAR CRETE

1 min read

A humanitarian convoy attempting to deliver aid to Gaza has reported being targeted by drones and experiencing multiple explosions while positioned in international waters near Crete. Organizers stated that several vessels encountered unidentified drones, communications jamming, and audible detonations in what they described as coordinated harassment operations.

According to participants, at least four boats experienced direct targeting by unmanned aircraft dropping unidentified objects. One vessel documented an explosion occurring in close proximity to its position. Activists aboard reported observing between 15-16 drones in the area simultaneously, accompanied by radio interference and the broadcast of loud music across communication channels.

This marks the third reported incident involving drone activity around the aid convoy this month. Previous encounters were reported while the flotilla was stationed in Tunisian waters, though no injuries were reported during those events. Tunisian authorities previously disputed the accuracy of at least one drone sighting report.

The humanitarian mission, comprising 51 vessels carrying international activists and aid supplies, departed from Barcelona in late August with the stated objective of delivering humanitarian assistance to Gaza. Israeli authorities have previously declared they will prevent the flotilla from reaching Gaza, having successfully intercepted two similar maritime attempts in June and July.

Organizers have vowed to continue their mission despite the reported incidents, asserting they will not be deterred by what they characterize as intimidation tactics. The flotilla remains positioned in the Mediterranean as participants assess their next course of action.
