Ange Postecoglou has affirmed his commitment to seeing through his project at Nottingham Forest, despite a difficult opening to his tenure. The manager is set for crucial discussions with the club’s hierarchy this week, where he will argue for patience and continued belief in his long-term vision.
Following a 2-0 loss to Newcastle United, a result that extends his winless run to seven matches, the Australian remained resolute. He struck a defiant, at times sardonic, tone when addressing the pressure surrounding his position.
“I see this as an exciting opportunity,” Postecoglou stated. “You have to be ready for the fight and the struggle. It would be foolish for someone of my experience to be here without self-belief. I’ve never backed down from a challenge, even from my earliest days.”
He dismissed the narrative of immediate crisis as part of the Premier League’s weekly drama, suggesting the demand for instant success is unrealistic.
“If people want to judge me after a few weeks in the job, that’s their prerogative,” he commented. “But what I have witnessed internally convinces me we are moving in the right direction. The outcomes will follow. Life isn’t about having things handed to you; you have to earn them. Why is there this expectation for everything to be perfectly sorted from day one? The modern tendency is to abandon ship at the first sign of trouble.”
Postecoglou emphasized that he was fully aware of the scale of the task when he accepted the role, and he embraces the difficulty of implementing a new style of play.
“I knew this was a significant challenge, and there’s nothing wrong with that,” he said. “I don’t view challenges as a burden; I relish them. The alternative is to be a spectator, and that’s not for me. If others want to make a spectacle of our situation, that’s of no concern to me. It truly doesn’t matter.”
