Prominent Indian industrialist Sunjay Kapur has passed away at age 53 following a severe allergic reaction to a bee sting. The chairman of automotive components manufacturer Sona Comstar collapsed during a polo match in England on June 12 after reportedly swallowing the insect, which triggered an anaphylactic shock that led to cardiac arrest.

The company he led confirmed the unexpected loss in an official statement, praising Kapur as a visionary executive whose leadership and dedication were instrumental to the organization’s achievements.

Tributes have poured in from various institutions with which Kapur was affiliated. Ashoka University in New Delhi described him as a valued community member and noted his significant standing within India’s corporate sector. The Doon School, his alma mater, highlighted his extensive contributions as a board member and committee chair, noting his international education and entrepreneurial accomplishments.

Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Kapur was recognized as an enthusiastic sports supporter who worked to expand polo’s accessibility beyond its conventional boundaries. His final social media activity involved expressing sympathy for victims of a recent aviation disaster.

Kapur is survived by two children from his previous marriage to actress Karisma Kapoor. The business community remembers him for his lasting impact through professional excellence and civic engagement.
