AMERICAN INVESTOR JOHN TEXTOR EMERGES AS POTENTIAL BUYER FOR SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

1 min read

American businessman John Textor has formally expressed interest in purchasing Sheffield Wednesday and is set to enter discussions with the club’s current owner, Dejphon Chansiri, in the coming days.

Textor, who recently divested his stake in Crystal Palace, has initiated contact and is traveling to the UK to advance negotiations. The Championship club is reportedly valued at approximately £100 million, though it is unclear if the American investor will meet that figure. Chansiri has engaged with multiple prospective buyers in recent months, having previously turned down a separate £40 million offer from an unnamed US group earlier this summer.

The potential acquisition comes at a critical time for Sheffield Wednesday, which has faced significant instability. The club has struggled with delayed player and staff payments, a summer exodus of key personnel including the manager, and ongoing concerns over stadium safety at Hillsborough. These issues have fueled supporter unrest, with many fans staging protests against the current ownership.

Textor is said to view the club as a restoration project, drawing parallels to his successful turnaround of Brazilian side Botafogo. If the takeover proceeds, his initial focus is expected to be on strengthening the playing squad and stabilizing the club’s operations.
