1 min read

A powerful 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck the Philippines has left an elderly man stranded on the 19th floor of his apartment building. The man, identified as the father of a prominent public figure, is confirmed to be safe but unable to leave his residence due to the structural damage caused by the tremor.

According to a family member who provided an update on social media, the octogenarian is coordinating with assistants to arrange a safe descent from the building. The relative expressed gratitude for the public’s concern and indicated that measures are being taken to ensure he is not caught in a similar predicament in the future.

The seismic event has resulted in a significant loss of life, with reports confirming at least 69 fatalities. The quake caused extensive damage to infrastructure, including roads and bridges, hampering rescue and recovery efforts.

The trapped individual relocated to the city of Cebu earlier this year, citing a desire for a more peaceful and affordable lifestyle. He had previously spoken about his reasons for the move, emphasizing the quality of medical care, the respect shown to elders, and the overall kindness of the people in the region as primary factors in his decision.

The situation has also drawn attention to the man’s strained relationship with his daughter, from whom he has been estranged for a number of years. He has publicly expressed a wish for tranquility in his later years, hoping to move past the conflicts that have characterized recent times.
