Lewis Hamilton is embracing a leadership position at Ferrari as the team works to reverse its competitive fortunes. The seven-time world champion has taken proactive steps beyond his driving duties, presenting detailed proposals to senior management about improving both the car’s performance and the team’s operational structure.
Hamilton acknowledged the scale of the challenge facing Ferrari, describing it as “a huge organization with many moving parts, not all firing on all cylinders.” His assessment comes during a season where the team has yet to secure a victory, despite high expectations following his high-profile move from Mercedes.
The British driver revealed he has held meetings with key Ferrari executives and submitted two comprehensive documents outlining his recommendations. One focused on technical improvements to the current car and development directions for next season’s regulations, while the other addressed what he termed “structural adjustments” needed within the team’s operations.
“There’s tremendous passion within this team and a strong desire to improve,” Hamilton noted after recent sessions at the Hungaroring. “I’m challenging every area because sometimes if you take the same path, you get the same results.”
Hamilton’s increased involvement mirrors approaches taken by other legendary drivers who successfully transformed teams. His efforts come at a crucial time for Ferrari, which last won a drivers’ championship in 2007 and a constructors’ title in 2008.
On track, Ferrari continues development work with a new rear suspension system introduced at the Belgian Grand Prix. During Friday practice in Hungary, Charles Leclerc showed promising pace while Hamilton worked through setup options, as McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri continued their strong form at the front of the field.
Despite current difficulties, Hamilton remains committed to the long-term project. “I refuse to accept that we cannot succeed,” he stated. “That’s why I’m going the extra mile – drawing on my experiences to help build something special here.”
