ONANA SET FOR TURKISH LOAN AFTER UNITED GOALKEEPING SHUFFLE

1 min read

Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana is finalizing a season-long loan move to Turkish Süper Lig side Trabzonspor, with the transfer anticipated to be formally completed at the start of the week.

The 29-year-old’s departure comes following a recent shift in the goalkeeping hierarchy at Old Trafford. The arrival of Senne Lammens on transfer deadline day provided manager Ruben Amorim with four senior options, alongside Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.

Financial considerations are believed to be a significant factor in the move. Onana is set for improved personal terms in Turkey, where a flat tax rate of 20% for foreign players offers a fiscal advantage. With Manchester United absent from the Champions League this season, players are missing out on substantial competition-related bonuses, making the Turkish offer more appealing.

Onana had initially been informed he would remain with the Premier League club this season. However, his status changed after falling behind Bayindir in the selection order, with his sole start this campaign coming in a Carabao Cup defeat.

The closure of the Turkish transfer window on Friday accelerated negotiations, leading to an agreement for the Cameroonian international to continue his career abroad.
