DIY HORROR FILM FAILS TO DELIVER CHILLS IN HAUNTED HOUSE TALE

1 min read

A new independent horror film attempts to blend found-footage conventions with haunted house tropes but ultimately falls short of delivering genuine scares. The low-budget production features a married couple playing fictionalized versions of themselves as filmmakers who purchase an inexpensive Missouri property to shoot their own horror movie.

The premise follows the couple’s documentary-style recording of their experiences in their newly acquired home, complete with ominous discoveries including satanic graffiti, damaged doors, and unsettling Victorian-era portraits. Their lighthearted banter and self-aware humor provide initial entertainment as they joke about the potential dangers of their deteriorating property.

However, when supernatural elements begin to manifest—including mysterious wall markings and hooded figures gathering outside the home—the film struggles to maintain tension. The atmospheric buildup fails to culminate in compelling horror sequences, leaving viewers waiting for payoffs that never materialize with sufficient impact.

While the film demonstrates creative ambition within its limited resources, the execution lacks the psychological depth and sustained dread needed to satisfy horror enthusiasts. The project serves as an example of how atmospheric setup alone cannot compensate for underwhelming supernatural revelations in the genre.
