A major British pub operator is set to open its first continental European establishment at Alicante Airport in Spain this January. The venue will begin serving alcohol daily from 6 a.m., targeting travelers awaiting flights from this popular tourist region.
This expansion marks the company’s inaugural venture beyond the UK and Ireland. The airport location, named after a historic coastal fortress in the area, will feature both indoor seating and an outdoor terrace where passengers can enjoy drinks before their flights.
While maintaining its traditional menu of breakfast items, burgers, and pizzas, the establishment will also incorporate local Spanish specialties including garlic prawns and Spanish omelettes. Food service will continue until one hour before closing.
The company’s chairman expressed enthusiasm about the overseas expansion, indicating plans to open additional international locations in the coming years, with a focus on airport venues and popular holiday destinations.
This European expansion follows recent reports of moderated sales growth for the pub chain, which nonetheless maintained a steady revenue increase in its most recent financial period. The new Spanish location will occupy approximately 93 square meters, significantly smaller than many of the company’s existing UK venues.
